’Om (Mother): an intimate portrait of life in the West Bank
A collection of images by Palestinian women tells a powerful story of determination
–
’Om (Mother) is a collaborative project curated by the Belgian photographer Barbara Debeuckelaere, comprising a series of candid and contemplative images made by women from eight families in Hebron.
Hebron is a Palestinian city in the West Bank, where a small number of radical Israeli settlers live, protected by a disproportionate military presence. Home to sites sacred to both Jews and Muslims, it is a place of deep divisions, tensions and restrictions for the Palestinian majority.
The book’s thought-provoking diptychs offer intimate glimpses of everyday life in the historic Tel Rumeida district, from the often neglected perspective of the women who live there. They also tell a powerful story of determination and resistance under occupation.
’Om (Mother) is published by The Eriskay Connection.
